You’re a sheltered thirteen year old who doesn’t know the LGBTQIA+ community exists, but feels broken whenever you think about your peers dating. You grow into an eighteen year old out and proud college freshman, but you’re living on your own for the first time, dealing with mysterious medical issues. Then you’re twenty-two, living alone in a not-so-queer friendly state, navigating adult friendships and dating for the first time. And of course, you have to move back in with your parents after your dream job turned out to not be so dreamy. You’re twenty-three, newly in love and moving to Chicago. You just achieved your life-long goal of being a published author. But then you’re twenty-four, disabled, broke, and unable to work a “regular job.” What do you do now?
Well you turn your experiences into a blog, of course!
Hi! Welcome to my life!
I’m Faye (she/they), nice to meet you! Above is just a little peek into how Bedside Banter came to be. To be real with you, I’m still a little lost in life. I don’t have it all together. I’m just desperately trying to defy all expectations and make a good life in a world not made for me. I’m thinking there are probably quite a few people who are feeling the same way. So why not share my life and find a little community along the way? If you’re someone who’s trying to find their place in the world, welcome! I hope this blog can be a place where you can learn from my messy life and ultimately, feel a little less alone. Because trust me, you’re not alone.
To give you a little more insight into who I am:
I’m an unhinged gen-z who relates heavily to raccoons, has far too many stuffed animals, and cries once a week over the plight of pigeons. I graduated from the University of Michigan-Flint with a Bachelors in Sociology and a minor in women and gender studies. I was originally working as a sex educator, but I found another career path in my original passion of writing. I am the author of the Young Adult novel Fires in Their Wake, as well as other upcoming titles. I identify as queer and non-binary, but ultimately I wish I was a boneless blob because damn, living is cool but my joints hurt from doing it. In my free time I enjoy reading, playing video games, jamming out to Florence and the Machine, and hanging out with my fiancee.
My disabilities include: Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Cranial-Cervical Instability, Innapropriate Sinus Tachycardia, Periodic Paralysis, PTSD, and Autism.
